A Spinster by the Sea
Heiress Anne Baxter seeks a repairing lease by the sea after she's left standing at the altar for the second time. To her utter mortification, the best man, Augustus, Duke of Tindale, has been invited to a house party at a nearby estate, and comes upon Anne trying to enjoy some solitude along the shore.
Augustus believes Anne is far better off without the buffoon who jilted her, but knows polite society will hold the lady accountable for the failed wedding,... weddings, rather. He proposes to show Anne marked attention at the house party, in hopes that a ducal suitor will prove to the gossips just how lovely Anne is. Alas for Augustus's brilliant scheme, the best laid plans of dukes of damsels, oft go awry!

Is the fourth time the charm? Anne Baxter is 25, jilted three times over and at Rose Cottage to figure out what to do next. She’s an heiress, passably pretty and ruined? Augustus, solicitor turned duke and best man at her most recent non wedding is also there. He’s wavering about Anne. They agree to hang out. For a novella, the dialogue and writing gets mired down with legalese (probably because both Grace and her character Augustus are solicitors). But both Anne and Augustus are agreeable characters. Recommend.

It is said that if you stay at the Siren’s Retreat, you will find the one you will marry. Anne Baxter needs a place to hide and reflect on what she considers her latest social failure. She was left standing at the altar. This is the third time wedding plans have fallen through. Maybe she should just be happy to be a wealthy spinster. Augustus, Duke of Tindale is not comfortable in his role. He was a hard-working, successful solicitor, and never expected to inherit any title. On a respite from his godmother’s house party/matchmaking attempt, Augustus meets Anne on the beach. Actually, they had met before. He was best man at her most recent not-wedding. They spend time enjoying one another’s company. They talk, walk on the beach, build sandcastles (with very nice moats), laugh, and relax. I liked Anne and Augustus. Their caring attitudes and acts of thoughtfulness show that they are the best of people. I loved the friendship that developed between them, and the way that friendship slowly became much more. It appears that Siren’s Retreat will again provide the way to happily ever after. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

Another wonderful chapter of stories by the sea. Augustus sets out to help save Anne’s reputation after what she’s been through. After being with her for awhile their plans change when they fall in love with each other.
