Worth Lord of Reckoning

Worth Lord of Reckoning

Consummate man of business and rake at large, Worth Kettering, repairs to his country estate to sort out his familial situation, trusting the ever efficient (though as yet unmet) housekeeper, Jacaranda Wyeth, will provide his family a pleasant summer retreat. To his surprise, his household is manage by a quick-witted, violet-eyed beauty who’s his match in many regards.
As Jacaranda and Worth become enamored, the family she’s kept hidden from him, the financial clients Worth feels singularly protective of, and the ragged state of affairs between Worth and his estranged older brother Hessian all conspire to keep Worth and Jacaranda apart. Worth must choose between love and profit, and Jacaranda must decide between loyalty to her family, and the love of a man who values her above all others.

Reviews
  • In this book, women want to be held, grabbed, kissed without permission

"A woman saying 'no" means 'yes, absolutely!'" That's not an exact quote from this book, but close enough. This is an older work, and to be fair, the author's newer works stay away from such outdated tropes. That said, after reading of the man calling this woman "dear" instead of respecting her name, telling her, essentially, she'd be prettier if she was sweeter, then grabbing her, pulling her into a room, locking the door and kissing her unasked (all of which we're to believe makes her fall for him)...I just couldn't stomach anymore.

  • Drawn out story with a quick ending

I forced myself to finish this drawn out story that lost its momentum before halfway through because I did like the characters. But the ending seriously happened in a page. Definitely not robust enough to make you happy you finished it. Very disappointed.
