Entretiens radiophoniques 1961-1983

Entretiens radiophoniques 1961-1983

Saplings and Spades

Saplings and Spades

As a young boy, David witnessed bulldozers obliterate a forest for a bypass. Decades later, he resolved to replace the annihilated trees with another wood. Starting from nothing, he set about the task. It was not easy; there was vastly more to woodland establishment than planting saplings. Writing informally, David recalls the triumphs and disasters of his undertaking. Success was hard-won and ultimately depended on an overlooked truth... Splendidly illustrated with aerial photos, this is the must read book for those wanting, or wondering what it is like, to plant a new wood of their own.

True Blue

As seen on Huckabee A suspended special agent explains his decision to turn whistleblower and expose FBI politicization and abuse against conservative America.Stephen Friend had his dream job as an FBI special agent. After nearly a decade of combating violent crime, human trafficking, and child predators, he was reassigned to the FBI’s unprecedented investigation of the political unrest at the United States Capitol on January 6, 2021. Friend soon uncovered efforts by the FBI and Department of Justice to manipulate statistics and exaggerate the nationwide threat of domestic terrorism. Friend spotlighted how the politicized FBI was cooking the books to support an ongoing narrative from the Joe Biden administration to label Donald Trump voters as violent extremists. Friend witnessed overzealous practices to harass conservative Americans and realized the FBI was turning its investigative processes into a punishment. When the married father of two made his bombshell allegations in a whistleblower disclosure, leaders within the FBI exposed themselves as partisan, ambitious players who insisted that January 6th protestors killed police officers and attempted to seize American democracy. Hell-bent on suppressing Friend from exposing the truth, FBI officials seized his gun and badge and suspended him from working as a special agent. In this memoir, Friend reflects on the lessons and life experiences that led him to ultimately risk his career to uphold his FBI special agent oath to protect and defend the United States Constitution against all enemies—both foreign and domestic.

The Gray Ghost of Civil War Virginia: John Singleton Mosby

The Gray Ghost of Civil War Virginia: John Singleton Mosby

No name in the annals of the Civil War conjures a more romantic and awe-inspiring image than that of Confederate Colonel John Singleton Mosby of Virginia. The epitome of the Southern cavalier, Colonel Mosby was a charismatic officer whose small band of partisans outwitted and outfought the Union army on the fields and farmlands of northern Virginia. So great was the panic inspired by this one officer’s military ingenuity, so prominent was the threat he created to the Union forces, that he came to be known in the north as more of a myth than a man.Award-winning historical fiction and Southern romance author Jessica James penned a unique look at this iconic figure as a way to share this real-life soldier's story with her fiction fans. John Mosby was the model for her fictional character Colonel Alexander Hunter in her novel NOBLE CAUSE (originally called Shades of Gray).Rather than a dry biography of the Confederate hero, this book takes readers on a journey with a ragtag group of Rebels who threw aside the established rules of warfare, effectively using fear as their weapon of choice and surprise as their watchword.Read about this forgotten American Hero in the first of a series of books that look back on those who played a role in shaping our nation.

The Divine Comedy by Dante, Illustrated, Purgatory, Volume 2

It is is biographical book. Now had I left those spirits, and pursued The steps of my Conductor, when beheld Pointing the finger at me one exclaimed: 'See how it seems as if the light not shone From the left hand of him beneath, and he, As living, seems to be led on. ' Mine eyes I at that sound reverting, saw them gaze Through wonder first at me, and then at me And the light broken underneath, by turns. 'Why are thy thoughts thus riveted?' my guide Exclaimed, 'that thou hast slacked thy pace? or how Imports it thee, what thing is whispered here? Come after me, and to their babblings leave The crowd. Be as a tower, that, firmly set, Shakes not its top for any blast that blows! He, in whose bosom thought on thought shoots out, Still of his aim is wide, in that the one Sicklies and wastes to nought the other's strength. '

The Divine Comedy by Dante, Illustrated, Paradise, Volume 3

It is is biographical book. Astounded, to the guardian of my steps I turned me, like the chill, who always runs Thither for succour, where he trusteth most, And she was like the mother, who her son Beholding pale and breathless, with her voice Soothes him, and he is cheered; for thus she spake, Soothing me: 'Know not thou, thou art in heaven? And knowest not thou, whatever is in heaven, Is holy, and that nothing there is done. But is done zealously and well?  Deem now, What change in thee the song, and what my smile had wrought, since thus the shout had power to move thee. In which could thou have understood their prayers, The vengeance were already known to thee, Which thou must witness ere thy mortal hour, The sword of heaven is not in haste to smite, Nor yet doth linger, save unto his seeming, Who in desire or fear doth look for it.

Churchill

Churchill

— The New York Times "Formidável. […] — The Sunday Telegraph

My life. È una lunga storia

My life.

The Use of Photography

The Use of Photography

WINNER OF THE 2022 NOBEL PRIZE IN LITERATURE**Serialized in The New Yorker**An account of Annie Ernaux’s love affair with journalist Marc Marie while she was undergoing treatment for cancer, and their combined project to document images and memories.Includes 14 color still-life photographs by the authors.A LitHub Most Anticipated Book of 2024“A must-read for lovers of words, images, and Ernaux herself. So. . . everyone?”—Jessie Gaynor, LitHub“Annie Ernaux has long foregrounded physical and emotional sensations as the building blocks of her autobiographical writing. However, it is in The Use of Photography where the connection between the body and subjectivity most powerfully emerges.”—Lisa Connell in French Forum“These photos, in which the bodies are absent, and the eroticism is only represented by the abandoned clothes, were a reminder of my possible, permanent absence.”—Annie ErnauxAnnie Ernaux and Marc Marie met in January 2003 and became lovers almost immediately. A short time later, he accompanied her to the Institut Curie, where she was having surgery for breast cancer. A deep bond formed between Annie and Marc precisely during this time of great uncertainty within Ernaux as to whether she would live or die from the cancer.Early in their affair, Ernaux found herself entranced each morning by the sight of clothes strewn about, chairs out of place, and the remains of their last meal of the evening before still on the table. The two lovers began to take still life photographs, and to write. Their efforts to save the fleeting beauty of these moments were, as Ernaux would describe later in an interview, “material proof of what had happened there, of love.”The Use of Photography is a defining work in Ernaux’s career, leading directly to the book that would come next, her masterpiece, The Years.“Annie Ernaux’s work presents a breathtakingly frank, fearless, many-sided account of the female experience during the past century.”—Liesl Schillinger, Oprah Daily
