Come già nel capolavoro La condizione umana, anche qui la vita, gli incontri e le vicende di questo straordinario intellettuale del secolo scorso sono spesso nascosti o distorti ad arte, talvolta quasi mascherati sotto l'immagine che di se stesso ci vuole regalare l'autore. Un procedimento che, pochi anni dopo, sarebbe stato definito autofiction.
