Cristianismo essencial

Cristianismo essencial

Christ's Incarnation the Foundation of Christianity

Christ's Incarnation the Foundation of Christianity

“GLORY to God in the highest.” The instructive lesson to be learned from this opening note of the angels’ song is, that salvation is God’s highest glory. He is glorified in every dewdrop that twinkles in the morning sunshine. He is magnified in every wood flower that blossoms in the copse, although it is born to blush unseen of man, and may seem to waste its sweetness on the forest air. God is glorified in every bird that warbles on the trees, and in every lamb that skips in the meadows. Do not the fishes in the sea praise Him? From the tiny minnow to the huge leviathan, do not all creatures that swim in the waters laud and magnify His great Name? Do not all created things extol Him? Is there aught beneath the sky, save man, that doth not glorify God? Do not the stars exalt Him, when they write His Name in golden letters upon the azure of heaven? Do not the lightnings adore Him when they flash His brightness in arrows of light piercing the midnight darkness? Do not the thunderpeals extol Him when they roll like drums in the march of the God of armies? Do not all things that He hath made, from the least even to the greatest, exalt Him?But sing, sing, O universe, till thou hast exhausted thyself, yet thou canst not chant an anthem so sweet as the song of Incarnation! Though Creation may be a majestic organ of praise, it cannot reach the compass of the golden canticle,—Incarnation! There is more melody in Jesus in the manger than in the whole sublime oratorio of the Creation. There is more grandeur in the song that heralds the birth of the Babe of Bethlehem than there is in worlds on worlds rolling in silent grandeur around the throne of the Most High.Pause, reader, for a minute, and consider this great truth. See how every one of the Divine attributes is here magnified. Lo, what wisdom is here! The Eternal becomes man in order that God may be just, and yet be the Justifier of him that believeth in Jesus. What power also is here, for where is power so great as when it concealeth itself? What power, that God should unrobe Himself for a while, and become man! Behold, too, what love is thus revealed to us when Jesus becomes a man; and what faithfulness! How many promises and prophecies are this day fulfilled! How many solemn obligations are this hour discharged! Tell me one attribute of God that you say is not manifest in Jesus; and your ignorance shall be to me the reason why you have not seen it to be so. The whole of God is glorified in Christ; and though some part of the Name of God is written in the material universe, it is best read in Him who was the Son of man, and also the Son of God.CrossReach Publications

How Can I Be Right with God?

How Can I Be Right with God?

God is holy, and we are sinful. God cannot stand to look upon sin. But the gospel of Jesus Christ reveals how sinful people can be right with God.In this booklet, Dr. R.C. Sproul delves into Scripture and church history to explore the doctrine of justification by faith alone. In so doing, he explains that by faith alone in Christ alone, sinful men and women can be justified and stand forgiven before a holy God.The Crucial Questions booklet series by Dr. R.C. Sproul offers succinct answers to important questions often asked by Christians and thoughtful inquirers.

The Reformed Doctrine of Predestination

The Reformed Doctrine of Predestination

Famous for his critique of Catholicism, Boettner in this book defends and explains the Reformed theology. Loraine Boettner (March 7, 1901 – January 3, 1990) was an American theologian, teacher, and author in the Reformed tradition. He is best known for his works on predestination, Roman Catholicism, and Postmillennial eschatology.

The Cross of the Lord Jesus

The Cross of the Lord Jesus

The cross of Christ was a place of many evils, such as pain, weakness, the curse, rejection, hatred, and death. However, it was also a place where all good things are to be found. It is the place of propitiation, reconciliation, love, and acceptance. In the cross Christ accomplished great things for us, bringing us life, making peace, and removing the wall of partition. The whole revelation of God points to the cross, as this is where God meets with man. Our response to the cross will lead to life for those who believe and death for those who reject it.

Rediscovering the Holy Spirit

Rediscovering the Holy Spirit

For the Spirit, being somewhat forgotten is an occupational hazard. The Holy Spirit is so actively involved in our lives that we can take his presence for granted. As they say, familiarity breeds contempt. Just as we take breathing for granted, we can take the Holy Spirit for granted simply because we constantly depend on him. Like the cane that soon feels like an extension of the blind man’s own body, we too easily begin to think of the Holy Spirit as an extension of ourselves.Yet the Spirit is at the center of the action in the divine drama from Genesis 1:2 all the way to Revelation 22:17. The Spirit’s work is as essential as the Father’s and the Son’s, yet the Spirit’s work is always directed to the person and work of Christ. In fact, the efficacy of the Holy Spirit’s mission is measured by the extent to which we are focused on Christ. The Holy Spirit is the person of the Trinity who brings the work of the Father, in the Son, to completion. In everything that the Triune God performs, this perfecting work is characteristic of the Spirit. In Rediscovering the Holy Spirit, author, pastor, and theologian Mike Horton introduces readers to the neglected person of the Holy Spirit, showing that the work of God’s Spirit is far more ordinary and common than we realize. Horton argues that we need to take a step back every now and again to focus on the Spirit himself—his person and work—in order to recognize him as someone other than Jesus or ourselves, much less something in creation. Through this contemplation we can gain a fresh dependence on the Holy Spirit in every area of our lives.

Humility

Humility

"Humility is to have a blessed home in the Lord, where I can go in and shut the door, and kneel to my Father in secret." Humility is considered one of the best books on this topic. Brief, but powerful, Murray explores this topic through surveying a range of scriptures passages. Murray considers Christ to be the ultimate model as the one who gave up His life, in order to gain life for His people. This electronic edition features an active table of contents. The Great Divorce

The Great Divorce

This powerful and exquisitely written fantasy is one of C. S. Lewis's most enduring works of fiction. It is a profound meditation on good and evil and on what God truly offers us. In a dream, the narrator boards a bus on a drizzly afternoon in Hell and embarks on an amazing voyage to Heaven. Anyone in Hell is invited on board, and anyone is welcome to remain in Heaven if he or she so chooses. But do we really want to live in Heaven? This dazzling allegory about Heaven and Hell is one of Lewis’ most brilliantly creative tales, where we discover that the gates of Hell are actually locked from the inside.

Power Through Prayer

Power Through Prayer

"Spiritual work is taxing work, and men are loath to do it. Praying, true praying, costs an outlay of serious attention and of time, which flesh and blood do not relish." Power Through Prayer is a classic devotional written on the topic of prayer. Bounds considered it such an important facet of Christian life that he spent 3 hours each morning in prayer. Read this and learn why prayer should be central to Christian life! This electronic edition features an active table of contents. Power Through Prayer is part of The Fig Classic Series. Justification by an Imputed Righteousness

Justification by an Imputed Righteousness

Another quality eBook from Chapel Library. John Bunyan, author of the classic Pilgrim’s Progress, explores the biblical doctrine of justification. Believers in Christ are declared righteous freely upon believing, through the righteousness of Jesus Christ imputed to them. In his charming style, Bunyan presents these headings: Men Are Justified before God while Sinners, Men Can Be Justified Only by the Righteousness of Christ, The Uses of Justifying Faith.

For Calvinism / Against Calvinism (Enhanced Edition) (Enhanced Edition)

For Calvinism / Against Calvinism (Enhanced Edition) (Enhanced Edition)

Two-book compilation containing award-winning author Michael Horton’s For Calvinism and Roger Olson’s Against Calvinism. For Calvinism Taking us beyond the caricatures, Michael Horton invites us to explore the teachings of Calvinism, also commonly known as Reformed theology, by showing us how it is biblical and God-centered, leading us to live our lives for the glory of God. Horton explores the historical roots of Calvinism, walking readers through the distinctive known as the “Five Points,” and encouraging us to consider its rich resources for faith and practice in the 21st Century. Against Calvinism In Against Calvinism, readers will find scholarly arguments explaining why Calvinist theology is incorrect and how it affects God’s reputation. Olson draws on a variety of sources, including Scripture, reason, tradition, and experience, to support his critique of Calvinism and the more historically rich, biblically faithful alternative theologies he proposes. Addressing what many evangelical Christians are concerned about today—the so-called “new Calvinism,” a movement embraced by a generation labeled as “young, restless, Reformed” —Against Calvinism is the only book of its kind to offer objections from a non-Calvinist perspective to the current wave of Calvinism among Christian youth.</

Sanidad Divina

Sanidad Divina

Come l’amicizia. [dalla postfazione di Vincenzo Passerini]

Gargantua and Pantagruel, Illustrated, Book 2

Gargantua and Pantagruel, Illustrated, Book 2

Franois Rabelais (1494-1553) was a major French Renaissance writer, doctor and humanist. He is regarded as an avant-garde writer of fantasy, satire, the grotesque, dirty jokes and bawdy songs. As a doctor, he used his spare time to write and publish humourous pamphlets which were critical of established authority and stressed his own perception of individual liberty. His revolutionary works, although satirical, revealed an astute observer of the social and political events unfolding during the first half of the sixteenth century. Using the pseudonym Alcofribas Nasier, he published his first book, Pantagruel, that would be the start of his Gargantua series. Gargantua and Pantagruel tells the story of two giants - a father, Gargantua, and his son, Pantagruel - and their adventures, written in an amusing, extravagant, and satirical vein. His use of his native tongue was astoundingly original, lively, and creative. He introduced dozens of Greek, Latin, and Italian loan-words and direct translations of Greek and Latin compound words and idioms into French. He has influenced many modern writers and scholars. Aleister Crowley's writings heavily borrow from Rabelais themes.
