The Everlasting Man

The Everlasting Man

The Everlasting Man is inspired by H. G. Wells’ The Outline of History, which explains the history of mankind and religion as solely a product of natural selection and other material causes. In contrast, G. K. Chesterton presents the case for Christianity throughout history, by illustrating firstly, the uniqueness of man amongst the animals, and secondly, the uniqueness of Christ and the Church amongst other religions and philosophies.Written in Chesterton’s typical style, already familiar to readers of Orthodoxy and Heretics, and ripe with humor and symbolism, The Everlasting Man doesn’t aim to be a scholarly history treatise. Rather, like the title of Wells’ work, Chesterton merely presents us his outline of history. It is in this outline that his Christian, specifically Catholic, perspective contrasts with secular views common in modern times.

There is nothing I am more concerned about just now than that God should revive His church in America. I believe it is the only hope for our republic, for I don’t believe that a republican form of government can last without righteousness. It seems to me that every patriot, every man who loves his country, ought to be anxious that the church of God should be quickened and revived.CrossReach Publications

The Ministry of Intercession

The Ministry of Intercession

excellent book on prayer by Andrew Murray, focusing on intercessory prayer. The 30 days of Intercessory Prayer in the notes at the book's end suggest actual things to pray for to bless those in your own circle and extending out to all the world. Watchmen are needed on the walls! Learn to pray. There is no excuse on this one. It is a sin not to be praying for others as they go down in darkness to be lost for ever. Everyone is called to join Jesus in praying. Prayer enables Jesus to work in lives and places that He cannot without us praying. .

Son of Hamas

Son of Hamas

Son of Hamas is now available with an all-new chapter about events since the book’s release such as the revelation of Mosab’s Israeli intelligence handler’s true identity, and Homeland Security’s effort to deport the author.Since he was a small boy, Mosab Hassan Yousef has had an inside view of the deadly terrorist group Hamas. The oldest son of Sheikh Hassan Yousef, a founding member of Hamas and its most popular leader, young Mosab assisted his father for years in his political activities while being groomed to assume his legacy, politics, status . . . and power. But everything changed when Mosab turned away from terror and violence, and embraced instead the teachings of another famous Middle East leader. In Son of Hamas, Mosab reveals new information about the world’s most dangerous terrorist organization and unveils the truth about his own role, his agonizing separation from family and homeland, the dangerous decision to make his newfound faith public, and his belief that the Christian mandate to “love your enemies” is the only way to peace in the Middle East.

A Body of Divinity

A Body of Divinity

Thomas Watson’s Body of Practical Divinity is one of the most precious of the peerless works of the Puritans; and those best acquainted with it prize it most. Watson was one of the most concise, racy, illustrative, and suggestive of those eminent divines who made the Puritan age the Augustan period of evangelical literature. There is a happy union of sound doctrine, heart-searching experience and practical wisdom throughout all his works, and his Body of Divinity is, beyond all the rest, useful to the student and the minister. Although Thomas Watson issued several most valuable books, comparatively little is known of him - even the dates of his birth and death are unknown. His writings are his best memorial; perhaps he needed no other, and therefore providence forbade the superfluity. We shall not attempt to discover his pedigree, and, after the manner of antiquarians, derive his family from a certain famous Wat, whose son distinguished himself in the Crusades, or in some other insane enterprise; whether blue blood was in his veins or no is of small consequence, since we know that he was the seed-royal of the redeemed of the Lord. Some men are their own ancestors, and, for ought we know, Thomas Watson’s genealogy reflected no fame upon him, but derived all its lustre from his achievements. (Charles H. Spurgeon) • Brief Memoir of Thomas Watson • A Preliminary Discourse to Catechising • Introduction • Man’s Chief End • The Scriptures • God And His Creation • The Being of God • The Knowledge of God • The Eternity of God • The Unchangeableness of God • The Wisdom of God • The Power of God • The Holiness of God • The Justice of God • The Mercy of God • The Truth of God • The Unity of God • The Trinity • The Creation • The Providence of God • The Fall • The Covenant of Works • Sin • Adam’s Sin • Original Sin • Man’s Misery by the Fall • The Covenant of Grace and Its Mediator • The Covenant of Grace • Christ the Mediator of the Covenant • Christ’s Prophetic Office • Christ’s Priestly Office • Christ’s Kingly Office • Christ’s Humiliation In His Incarnation • Christ’s Exaltation • Christ the Redeemer • The Application of Redemption • Faith • Effectual Calling • Justification • Adoption • Sanctification • Assurance • Peace • Joy • Growth in Grace • Perseverance • Death and the Last Day • The Death of the Righteous • A Believer’s Privilege At Death • The Resurrection  Thomas Watson was an English, Nonconformist, Puritan preacher and author. He was educated at Emmanuel College, Cambridge, where he was noted for remarkably intense study. In 1646 he commenced a sixteen-year pastorate at St. Stephen’s, Walbrook. He showed strong Presbyterian views during the civil war, with, however, an attachment to the king, and in 1651 he was imprisoned briefly with some other ministers for his share in Christopher Love’s plot to recall Charles II of England. He was released on 30 June 1652, and was formally reinstated as vicar of St. Stephen’s Walbrook. He obtained great fame and popularity as a preacher until the Restoration, when he was ejected for Nonconformity. Notwithstanding the rigor of the acts against dissenters, Watson continued to exercise his ministry privately as he found opportunity. Upon the Declaration of Indulgence in 1672 he obtained a license to preach at the great hall in Crosby House. After preaching there for several years, his health gave way, and he retired to Barnston, Essex, where he died suddenly while praying in secret. He was buried on 28 July 1686.

Loving Wisdom

Loving Wisdom

Presenting a distinctively and deliberately Christian philosophy of religion, Loving Wisdom addresses a wide range of topics and questions. Copan acknowledges the difficulties, mystery, and disagreement of religion, and instead of using the language of “proofs,” he attempts to show how the Christian faith does a much more adequate job of answering a wide range of questions.

The Bondage of the Will

The Bondage of the Will

"Even grammarians and schoolboys on street corners know that nothing more is signified by verbs in the imperative mood than what ought to be done, and that what is done or can be done should be expressed by words in the indicative. How is it that you theologians are twice as stupid as schoolboys, in that as soon as you get hold of a single imperative verb you infer an indicative meaning, as though the moment a thing is commanded it is done, or can be done?" The Bondage of the Will is considered by many as Martin Luther's most important work. The title of this work was a response to Erasmus' letter titled, Freedom of the Will, where his argument was that God's commands implied moral ability. In what has been considered a brilliant response to this was Luther's proposition that God's commands actually implied inability! This was simply Luther's near and dear doctrine of total depravity but in a form that is direct in its address and persuasive in its candor. This electronic edition features an active table of contents. The Bondage of the Will is part of The Fig Classic Series on Reformation Theology. Jesus: A New Vision

Jesus: A New Vision

From top Jesus expert Marcus Borg, a completely updated and revised version of his vision of Jesus—as charismatic healer, sage, and prophet, a man living in the power of the spirit and dedicated to radical social change. Fully revised and updated, this is Borg's major book on the historial Jesus. He shows how the Gospel portraits of Jesus, historically seen, make sense. Borg takes into account all the recent developments in historical Jesus scholarship, as well as new theories on who Jesus was and how the Gospels reflect that. The original version of this book was published well before popular fascination with the historical Jesus. Now this new version takes advantage of all the research that has gone on since the 80s. The revisions establish it as Borg's big but popular book on Jesus.

Tao Te King

Tao Te King

The 2500 year old Tao Te King by the Chinese sage Lao-Tse is a jewel of Eastern wisdom. It is counted among the most profound and most translated books of world literature. In deep, mystical language of incomparable imagery, the Tao Te King speaks of the Tao, the divine origin of all existence, and its spiritual force in man. Its intention is to lead him back to the original oneness with the Tao, and so into harmony with the all-embracing wholeness of existence. In this outstanding new transcription, Zen Master Zensho has wonderfully succeeded in portraying the entire mystical expressive force of this work whilst strictly adhering to the original sense, and thus opening up a completely new, profounder dimension. A timeless book of unique mystical fullness and linguistic beauty.

Realm of the Saint

Realm of the Saint

In premodern Moroccan Sufism, sainthood involved not only a closeness to the Divine presence (walaya) but also the exercise of worldly authority (wilaya). The Moroccan Jazuliyya Sufi order used the doctrine that the saint was a “substitute of the prophets” and personification of a universal “Muhammadan Reality” to justify nearly one hundred years of Sufi involvement in Moroccan political life, which led to the creation of the sharifian state. This book presents a systematic history of Moroccan Sufism through the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries C.E. and a comprehensive study of Moroccan Sufi doctrine, focusing on the concept of sainthood. Vincent J. Cornell engages in a sociohistorical analysis of Sufi institutions, a critical examination of hagiography as a source for history, a study of the Sufi model of sainthood in relation to social and political life, and a sociological analysis of more than three hundred biographies of saints. He concludes by identifying eight indigenous ideal types of saint that are linked to specific forms of authority. Taken together, they define sainthood as a socioreligious institution in Morocco.
