Bikes Over Baghdad

Bikes Over Baghdad

We had no intentions of making a film when the first Bikes Over Baghdad tour departed the US for war-torn Iraq. To be honest, most days were spent just trying to get the job done without ending up on a gurney. Schedules were grueling, temperatures brutal, enemy attacks common, supplies marginal and failure was not an option. There was little room for error, let alone a film crew. We all took small cameras and let them roll every chance we could. Little by little, after 6 separate tours and several months in Iraq, we realized we had a story that needed to be told. This isn’t a typical action sports video of guys doing insane tricks in remote locations (though it has that), or a story about the sacrifices our soldiers make day in and day out (though that's in there as well), and this isn’t the diary of an adventure a group of friends embarked on (though, again, there is that). This is a story about what happens when people put their own safety aside to make someone’s life a little better. We faced extreme conditions, mortar rounds, IED’s, injury, exhaustion and more, but we never missed a show. The team reads like a who’s who of action sports: Nate Wessel, the top ramp builder in the world, led the construction alongside Ron Kimler while X Games medalists Chad Kagy, Brian Kachinsky, Drew Bezanson, and Anthony Napolitan joined LA Ink star Mike 'Rooftop' Escamilla and others. Zack 'Catfish' Yankush and Micah Kranz took time from their busy schedules to lend their famous voices and personalities to the show. Throughout the tour, the team met thousands of troops, spent time with wounded warriors, stayed in Saddam's palaces, flew across the Iraqi desert in Blackhawks, drove tanks, shot guns and visited places that few other people have ever set foot. This video will show just how special of an experience this was for thousands serving in the Middle East, and hopefully serve as a reminder that everyone has the power to initiate change in their own way.

Make Believe

Make Believe

Inspiration is evoked spontaneously and without intention… Sometimes it comes in the form of a photograph, a chance encounter on a chairlift, or a glimpse at a mountain never seen before. When combined with motivation, the spark of inspiration becomes a dream, and when pursued gives our lives a new purpose. For 25 years TGR has focused on turning Make Believe into reality, from exploring powder stashes in our backyard playground to first descents on unnamed peaks, the ethos of “live the dream” has defined our adventures. “MAKE BELIEVE” celebrates today’s athletes who have committed to this ethos, the ones who combine imagination and commitment, the people who have chosen to live their lives in a particular way, from inception to reality, the ones who choose to make and believe in their dreams.

Solitaire: A Sweetgrass Production

Solitaire: A Sweetgrass Production

Venturing beyond the frontiers of most mountain films, Solitaire is backcountry skiing forged in the tradition of Western cinema. Born in the spires of Argentina’s legendary Las Lenas, a lonely two-year journey begins through an abandoned world, wandering the length of a continent from Peru’s Cordillera Blanca to Chilean Patagonia. Lost in the winds of snowbound badlands and the blizzards of primordial forests; seen from a horse’s saddle and a paraglider’s wings; ridden on ski and board and telemark...Solitaire fuses western-inspired tales of backcountry gambles into landscapes never before visited on film.

2019 World Series Champions: Washington Nationals

2019 World Series Champions: Washington Nationals

The 2019 World Series was loaded with surprises, comebacks, superstars, and a few new records. Home field advantage belonged to the 105-win Houston Astros, who were looking to take back a title they had won in 2017. The white-hot Washington Nationals were fighting for the first championship in franchise history. The Washington Nationals beat the Houston Astros in a most unpredictable Fall Classic, winning Game 7 with one last rally in a season full of rallies. For the first time in MLB history, the road team won all seven games in the World Series. These Nationals began their season on the brink, starting 19-31 before shifting into high gear with a baseball-best record of 74-38 down the stretch. Manager Dave Martinez battled a health scare while leading a roster balanced with experience and youthfulness that was tweaked for October by Mike Rizzo, General Manager&President of Baseball Operations. The National League Wild Card game and NLDS looked much like the regular season for the Nationals– down early, but coming back to win elimination games. Then they swept the surprising but outmatched St. Louis Cardinals in the NLCS to setup a showdown with the Astros. Willie Mays World Series MVP Stephen Strasburg, Max Scherzer, and Patrick Corbin combined to win all four games played on the road. Superstars Anthony Rendon and Juan Soto delivered crushing blows throughout the series. Big plays and even bigger hits continuously poured in from veterans Kurt Suzuki, Adam Eaton, Howie Kendrick, and Nationals first-ever draft pick Ryan Zimmerman, who helped return Major League Baseball to Washington, D.C. in 2005. Fight finished.

John McEnroe: In the Realm of Perfection

John McEnroe: In the Realm of Perfection

Written and directed by Julien Faraut and narrated by Mathieu Amalric, John McEnroe: In the Realm of Perfection revisits the rich bounty of 16-mm-shot footage of the left-handed tennis star John McEnroe, at the time the world’s top-ranked player, as he competes in the French Open at Paris’s Roland Garros Stadium in 1984. Close-ups and slow motion sequences of McEnroe competing, as well as instances of his notorious temper tantrums, highlight a ”man who played on the edge of his senses.” Far from a traditional documentary, Faraut probes the archival film to unpack both McEnroe’s attention to the sport and the footage itself, creating a lively and immersive look at a driven athlete, a study on the sport of tennis and the human body and movement, and finally how these all intersect with cinema itself.
