Biznesowa Książka Roku 2014 według „Financial Times” i McKinsey. Numer Jeden na liście bestsellerów „New York Timesa” i przebój sprzedażowy wszechczasów wydawnictwa Harvard University Press. Do stycznia 2015 sprzedano PÓŁTORA MILIONA egzemplarzy książki w językach francuskim, angielskim, niemieckim, chińskim i hiszpańskim. Nieznajomość tej pracy intelektualnie dyskwalifikuje.Prof. Jerzy Hausner Wybuchowa argumentacja.„Libération” Po raz pierwszy ekonomista daje wyczerpujące dowody na prawdziwość powiedzenia|: „Kto ma, temu będzie dane”.„Spiegel Online” Dzieło o wielkiej głębii historycznej z jeszcze większym bogactwem w zakresie faktów.„Die Welt” Błyskotliwa opowieść o bogactwie i nędzy.„Süddetsche Zeitung” Kapitał w XXI wieku Thomasa Pikettyego jest takim sukcesem, bo wydaje się napisany właśnie po to, by zburzyć wielkie ekonomiczne szybolety naszych czasów… To magnum opus Pikettyego.Thomas Frank, „Salon” 700-stronicowy cios w zadowolone bebechy rozpieszczonej plutokracji. […] Ta masa danych pozwala Pikettyemu opowiedzieć całkiem prostą i przekonującą historię.„The Economist” Francuski ekonomista Thomas Piketty napisał wyjątkowo ważną książkę. Czytelnicy o otwartych umysłach z pewnością nie będą mogli zignorować zawartych w niej dowodów i argumentów. Jej rozmach przywodzi na myśl dzieła założycieli ekonomii politycznej. […] To zniewalająca historia ekonomiczna, społeczna i polityczna.„Financial Times” Piketty kwestionuje podstawową logikę dominującą dotychczas w ekonomii. Paul Krugman, noblista, „New York Times” W Kapitale w XXI wieku Piketty do katalogu podatkowych rozwiązań dodał też jeszcze zupełnie nową koncepcję podatku majątkowego. Russell Jacoby, „New Republic” Thomas Piketty (1971) – francuski ekonomista, absolwent m.in. London School of Economics, dyrektor ds. badań w École des hautes études en sciences sociales (EHESS), współzałożyciel i profesor w Paris School of Economics. Obok bestsellerowej książki Kapitał w XXI wieku (2013) napisał też m.in. Ekonomię nierówności (2004) i Czy można uratować Europę?

Place Based Approaches to Sustainability Volume I

Place Based Approaches to Sustainability Volume I

Without respecting and nurturing ‘place’ we cannot achieve a state of ecological sustainability. Place-based organizations are not run on a purely materialistic basis. The non-materialistic features of a place, its aesthetics, cultural heritage, community feelings, transcendence, should be integrated into sustainability management. This far-reaching two-volume work breaks with the economic logic of efficiency and profit maximization, and suggests that organizations should inform their sustainability by encompassing feelings of identity with and attachment to place.According to this vision, the editors have compiled scholarly contributions aimed to support the ecological transformation of humankind by exploring both theoretical and practical models that integrate the sense of the place, ethics and spirituality in new ways of organizing of economic and social life. This first volume sets the theoretical direction of the volumes, asking broad aestheticquestions around the ethical and spiritual foundations of sustainability. It will be of interest to scholars, practitioners and students of sustainability, business ethics and spirituality.Mara Del Baldo is Associate Professor of Accounting and Business Administration, Economics of Sustainability and Accountability at the University of Urbino, Italy, Department of Economics, Society and Politics.Maria-Gabriella Baldarelli is Associate Professor of Accounting, University of Bologna, Department of Management, Rimini Campus, Italy.Elisabetta Righini is Full Professor of Commercial Law and Law of Trade and Financial Markets at the School of Law and the School of Economics of University of Urbino, Italy.

Jobs and Growth: Supporting the European Recovery

Jobs and Growth: Supporting the European Recovery

Five years after the onset of the global financial crisis, Europe’s economy is still fragile. Notwithstanding recent positive signs amid calmer financial markets, medium-term growth is likely to remain frail owing to continuing weaknesses and vulnerabilities at the country level and in the fabric of European institutions and banks, especially in the euro area. In addition, unemployment in many countries has reached very high levels. The IMF research collected in this volume provides a number of guideposts that offer an opportunity for stronger and better-balanced growth and employment in Europe after what has been a long and dismal period of crisis.

Managing China's Energy Sector

Managing China's Energy Sector

Since China has now become the world’s largest energy consumer, its energy sector has understandably huge implications for the global economy. This book examines the transformation of China’s conventional and renewable energy sectors, with special attention to state-business relations. Two studies examine the development of China’s energy profile, especially China’s renewable energy. Two others explore governmental relations with state-owned enterprises (SOEs) and their reform. Despite drastic restructuring in the late 1990s, SOEs continue their oligopolistic control of the oil and gas sectors and even overshadow the stock market. Three studies investigate the factors that help propel the expansion of China’s conventional energy firms, as well as those producing renewable energy (i.e. solar PV industry). A study of China’s solar PV industry suggests that China’s governmental support for it has evolved from subsidising production (a "mercantile" stage aimed at expanding the industry’s global production and export share) to subsidising the demand side (aiming at expanding domestic demand and absorbing redundant manufacture capacity). Another review of this industry finds that firms tend to pay heavy attention to extra-firm institutional network relationships both inside and outside China, and that buyer-supplier networks are influenced by extra-local managerial education. The final chapter compares China’s provinces and their embedded carbon-footprints per capita in urban areas from a consumption perspective, using a self-organizing feature map (SOFM) model. This book was originally published as a special issue of the Asia Pacific Business Review.

Ethics, Meaning, and Market Society

Ethics, Meaning, and Market Society

This book explores the underlying causes of the pervasive dominance of ‘unethics’ in contemporary affairs in economics, business, and society. It is argued that the state of unethics is related to the overexpansion of market and market values in all spheres of social life and human activities. A correlate of this development is the emergence of an extremely individualistic, materialistic and narcissistic mind-set that dictates the decisions and behavior of people and organizations. The author argues that art can help to overcome the dominant market metaphysics of our age, as genuine art creates models of 'poetic dwelling,' which can generate non-linear, progressive change that opens up a larger playing field for ethics. Aesthetics and ethics go hand in hand. Ethical action is not just right for its own sake, but makes the world a richer, livable and more beautiful place.Ethics, Meaning, and Market Society will be of interest to students at an advanced level, academics, researchers and professionals. It addresses the topics with regard to ethics in economics, business, and society in a contemporary context.
